The Robertson Small Hotel and Reuben's at The Robertson Small Hotel win the heart of Route 62 at a swish local launch

Tuesday, August 18, 2009 by The Robertson Small Hotel

One-of-a-kind, timeless and sophisticated, The Robertson Small Hotel opened its doors last week as Robertson Wine Valley locals were invited to swan about, sipping on the 'fizz' of sophistication and relishing delectable canapés prepared by Reuben Riffel and his team.

Esteemed guests celebrated the launch of this Hotel which is testament to understated elegance and representative of the development of Route 62.

The Old Victorian Manor House lit up Van Reenen Street as a welcoming beacon, ushering in guests, and soon the party was abuzz with swooning locals who marvelled at the magnificent architecture, manicured gardens, lush suites and shimmering pools.

Tim Rands (Managing Director of Vinimark The Wine Company and co-owner of The Robertson Small Hotel) addressed the elated guests, welcoming them to The Robertson Small Hotel and Reuben's at The Robertson Small Hotel. He thanked builder, Frans Groeneweg, architect, Rick Stander, and Designer and Project Manager, Nica Maree, and attributed the unparalleled excellence of this Hotel to their hard work. He also introduced the Management Team, trendy and dynamic couple, Riaan and Stefané Kruger, whose reputation in the hospitality industry precedes them.

Mr Rands went on to expound on how far the Valley had come in twenty years, particularly on the wine-making front. The establishment of four well-attended wine festivals (Wacky Wine Weekend, Robertson Slow, Robertson Wine on the River and Hands-on-Harvest), for instance, reveals how collective community involvement has catalysed wine tourism and put Route 62 on the map as the inhabitants 'claimed it for themselves'. He went on to mention several illustrious wine brands like: De Wetshof, Van Loveren, Bon Courage, Zandvliet, Bon Cap, Springfield, Excelsior, Graham Beck, Rietvallei and Robertson Winery, to name but a few; illuminating the calibre of wine in this Valley.

"In my opinion, if Robertson is not the wine area of today, it will be the wine area of tomorrow. We have built this Small Hotel recognizing the great work that all of you have done and hope that this Hotel will help in building the reputation of this Valley," he concluded.
